Northstar Pulp & Paper joins ranks of "Super 60"
January 18, 2004
SPRINGFIELD, MASS. - For years, Northstar Pulp & Paper has been an industry leader. From innovative products and services in both U.S. and international markets, to fund-raising efforts right here in the local
community, Northstar has proven time and time again that it is truly an "super" company. And now, Northstar can officially claim that title.
On Nov. 6, the Affiliated Chambers of Commerce of Greater Springfield, Inc., honored Northstar Pulp & Paper through its 14th annual Super 60 Award in the category of Total Revenue. And according to the ACCGS,
Northstar also qualified for placement in the Revenue Growth category.
The Super 60 award honors the 60 fastest growing, privately-held companies in the region for their significant contributions to the strength of the regional economy. Companies eligible for the award must be independent, privately-owned businesses, be based in either Hampden or Hampshire counties or be a member of the ACCGS, be in business for at least three full years, and produce revenues of at least $1 million in the last fiscal year. This year's revenue winners combined for more than $730 million in the last fiscal year, with a majority exceeding $18 million in sales.
"We are pleased by the Chamber's recognition of Northstar's contribution to Springfield's economic revival and job base growth," said Jeff Simpson, chief operating officer and chief financial officer of the Northstar Recycling Group. "Our national and international success is an outgrowth of the resources and support we derive from the local community. Together, Northstar and the Springfield community will continue to leverage opportunities outside of the region to make a difference for the local Springfield economy and the city's residents."
Northstar Pulp & Paper was number six on the ACCGS list for total revenue, competing with other large, well-known companies such as Pride Stations and Stores, and Peter Pan Bus Lines. Northstar was nominated for this honor by the company's accountant, Aaron Smith, P.C.
"By achieving Super 60 status, we recognize and appreciate the role Northstar Recycling Group has played over the last year in the overall economic climate of our region," said ACCGS President Russell F. Denver.
